How to document personal property damaged by floodwaters.

What to Track

  • Item description, brand/model, age, quantity, original cost if known, and replacement cost if available.
  • Photos showing each claimed item and floodwater contact.
  • Receipts, online order histories, manuals, serial numbers, or comparable replacement examples when available.

Photos Matter

  • Each claimed item should be supported by a photo when possible.
  • Take overview photos of affected contents in the room before moving them.
  • Take close-ups of higher-value items, serial/model plates, and visible flood damage.

Contents Worksheets & Downloads

Use the Excel spreadsheet when possible because it is the fastest, cleanest format for claim review. If Excel is not practical, use the printable handwritten worksheet.
