NFIP | Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) Coverage Info

ICC information template explaining potential Increased Cost of Compliance coverage and local floodplain documentation needs.

Template use: Replace placeholders such as POLICYHOLDER, claim-specific dates, amounts, Carrier names, and loss details before sending. Keep the adjuster authority disclaimer intact unless a Carrier/IA firm requires alternate wording.
Good afternoon POLICYHOLDER,

As part of your flood claim under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), I want to make you aware of a potential additional benefit called Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) coverage.

This coverage may provide up to $30,000 to help bring your structure into compliance with current local floodplain management regulations following a flood loss.

🔍 What is ICC Coverage?

ICC is designed to assist when a building:

• Has been substantially damaged (typically 50% or more of its pre-damage market value), or
• Has been declared a repetitive loss structure by your local community

If eligible, ICC may help pay for mitigation measures such as:

• Elevating the structure
• Relocating the structure
• Demolishing the structure
• Floodproofing (non-residential buildings only)

________________________________

⚠️ Important Notes

• ICC is separate from your building coverage limit
• Eligibility is determined by your local floodplain administrator, not the adjuster
• ICC eligibility is triggered by an official Substantial Damage or Repetitive Loss determination
• You must apply and receive approval BEFORE beginning any mitigation work
• Funds are only available if the structure meets all qualifying criteria

🚨 DO NOT begin any elevation, demolition, or mitigation work until your ICC claim has been reviewed and approved by the carrier.

🏛️ Next Steps

If after considering all available info on the FEMA ICC link above, you are interested in ICC and believe your property may qualify, you should first notify your flood insurance carrier.

The carrier’s ICC department will guide you through the process.

Your local floodplain administrator will then determine whether your structure meets the requirements for ICC eligibility.

Early communication with both your carrier and your local municipality can help avoid delays in the process.
