Purpose
- This guidance is intended to help insureds understand the general NFIP flood claim process and what documentation may be helpful.
- Every claim is reviewed by the Carrier. The field adjuster documents the loss and submits findings, but does not approve or deny coverage.
Typical Claim Flow
- Assignment received and initial contact made.
- Inspection completed, including photos, measurements, water heights, and visible flood-damage documentation.
- The insured provides requested supporting documents, photos, invoices, estimates, or contents documentation.
- The field adjuster prepares and submits a Final Report to the Carrier.
- The Carrier reviews the file and makes final claim decisions.
Important Reminders
- Keep damaged materials available for inspection when possible.
- Photograph flood-damaged materials before removal, during removal, and after removal.
- Keep all invoices, estimates, receipts, and contractor scopes itemized.
- Do not rely on verbal coverage guidance from contractors, neighbors, or public sources. The Carrier makes final claim decisions.
