Photo Documentation Checklist
Photos that help tell the water-path story, including exterior, interior, demo, contents, and mitigation photos.
Best Photo Types
- Photos showing the exterior source/path of flooding, including streets, yards, adjoining properties, ditches, rivers, creeks, lakes, or other overflow areas.
- Photos showing visible water lines, mud lines, silt, debris, staining, or floodwater remnants.
- Photos from opposite corners of each affected room, showing the full walls and floor areas.
- Photos before, during, and after demolition.
- Close-up photos of damaged building materials, appliances, mechanicals, contents, and any serial/model plates.
For Removed Materials
- Photograph the material in place before removal.
- Photograph the removed material pile, including enough context to identify the room/area.
- Photograph exposed cavities or substrates after removal.
- Photograph any floodwater staining, contamination, swelling, delamination, or saturation.
Avoid These Problems
- Do not submit only close-up photos with no room context.
- Do not discard high-value damaged contents without photos.
- Do not cover up or rebuild questionable areas before inspection or documentation.
